What You Need to Know from Bladeless Ceiling Fan by Exhale Fans

The bladeless ceiling fan is a brilliant revolutionary idea created by designer Nik Hiner and Richard Halsall, his business partner. The idea of the bladeless fan is to reinvent the standard, conventional counterpart. Together, Nik and Richard established Exhales Fans with Georgetown, Indiana as their base and began their project through their funding page in Indiegogo for the hope to raise enough money their innovative idea. However, the bladeless ceiling fan with light isn’t created yet. And since it is still a project without any product commercially sold yet, remember that there is still no bladeless ceiling fan review.

One of the reasons why Exhale Fans came up with the idea of making bladeless ceiling fan was how they found the ceiling fan industry had had blinders on when it came to changing the fundamental, essential thing that moved the air. What people knew—and still do until today—was that fans had blades… or so they had been told.

With the 19th-century bladeless turbines from inventor Nikolas Tesla, they began working on what they would later use as the fundamental of their bladeless ceiling fan. During the same time he started working with the turbines, Nik and his wife were planning to buy new ceiling fans for their own home. They kept getting frustrated with their options, even after many trips to the store. Nik later came to the realization that he could actually use the similar base technology as the bladeless turbines he was working with, but in reverse. He built the first prototype in his garage, followed by many advancements and prototypes.

There were many changes to the original design of the bladeless turbines for the bladeless ceiling fan to optimize the efficiency only at low rpm, with 300 rpm at maximum. Note that Tesla turbines were designed to create very high rpm, exceeding 50,000, to have forced air to enter from the outside. Therefore, the Exhale Fans had an improved input area, larger space between discs, in addition to a motor adapter in cone shape. All of them differentiated Exhale Fans from its inspiration.

Compared to a standard ceiling fan, a bladeless ceiling fan ensured an improved effectiveness while maintaining its small form factor. Standard ceiling fans still use brute force to mix the air in the environment, building large high CFM air movers. They can reach up to 72 inches in diameter too. On the other hand, bladeless one could be only half of size.
